Thunder Bay District Housing Corporation:

As part of the Social Housing Reform Act, 2000 (SHRA) which was proclaimed on December 14, 2000, the administration of public housing was transferred to the municipal level on January 1, 2001.  In Thunder Bay and District, real property, staff, moveable assets and third party agreements, formerly owned by the Ontario Housing Corporation and managed by the Thunder Bay District Housing Authority, were transferred to the newly created Thunder Bay District Housing Corporation (TBDHC).  The sole shareholder of the TBDHC is The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB).

A twelve (12) member Board of Directors, representing the District of Thunder Bay, as well as the shareholder, oversees the operations of the TBDHC and provide strategic direction and leadership to the TBDHC.

More specifically, Board members attend monthly meetings, make decisions with reference to property management, finance, human resources, coordinated access and tenant relations while staff carries out the day-to-day management of  2,581 TBDHC-owned units in the City of Thunder Bay and an additional 94 units scattered throughout the District of Thunder Bay.

Board membership is voluntary and unpaid except for expenses incurred during the performance of Board duties.  Members meet nine (9) times per year on the third Thursday of each month for a full Board meeting and may also be involved in additional committees of the Board.
